STIIIZY SPONSORS: 11TH ANNUAL UNITED PLAYAZ GUN BUYBACK EVENT
A UNLIKELY PAIRING OF CANNABIS, FORMERLY INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS, AND POLICE COME TOGETHER TO END GUN VIOLENCE
For nearly 30 years a group of streetwise San Franciscans called United Playaz has promoted their anti-gun and anti-violence message through their extensive service to the SoMa neighborhood’s most vulnerable communities, including many youth and elders.
One of United Playaz most impactful events is their 11th annual Gun Buyback, which took place this year on December 10. Held in partnership with the San Francisco Police Department, the buyback is completely anonymous for each participant that relinquishes their firearm; $100 for handguns and $200 for assault rifles, no questions asked. The buybacks not only stop guns from falling into hands of criminals but also prevents tragedies involving children, people in domestic disputes and those suffering from mental health crises. Over the years the Gun Buyback has removed approximately 4,500 guns from the streets.

STIIIZY has supported the program since 2017 with a $10,000 sponsorship that helps cover some of the costs associated with purchasing the guns to remove them from the streets. This event is an unlikely pairing of cannabis funds, formerly incarcerated individuals and the police coming together to prevent and end gun related violence in a city that has been plagued with it for decades, and we’re honored to be able to lend a helping hand.
